Review of Heatmiser: Disappointing and Misleading I recently purchased a Heatmiser thermostat, and I am extremely disappointed with their sales approach. There are two major issues that make this experience frustrating and unnecessarily complicated: 1. Separate Sale of Wall Box: It is absurd that Heatmiser sells their thermostats without including the required wall box. This is a fundamental part of the installation process and should be bundled together. The additional cost of the wall box is minimal, so why create an inconvenience for customers by making it a separate purchase? 2. Lack of Proper Warnings: When buying the thermostat, there is no clear warning that a wall box is needed. This leaves customers unprepared and forced to make a second purchase, delaying the installation process and creating unnecessary hassle. This lack of transparency is simply unacceptable. For a company that prides itself on offering smart and innovative solutions, this oversight is both baffling and unprofessional. Heatmiser, please prioritize your customers by including the wall box with your thermostats or, at the very least, clearly informing buyers that it must be purchased separately. These are basic steps to provide a smoother and more satisfactory experience.

I purchased this item as replacement for a Heatmiser PRT TS WiFi that has done great service for the past 11 years. The new unit has a much more modern look and the proximity detection means it lights up nicely when you put a hand near it. I am not a great fan of smartphone apps but this one seems to work OK, it only took a few minutes to get the thermostat registered and up and running. I like the idea of being able to access it remotely without needing a dynamic DNS account. I have discovered that there is a PC app available to access the thermostat but it does appear to be a bit buggy as it loads OK and you can log in OK but it then says the firmware needs updating in order to continue. Unfortunately when you press the update firmware button nothing happens so at the moment I am stuck. Overall I am impressed with what appears to be a much more mature product, if it performs as well as the previous unit I will be well pleased.

I installed a pair of Heatmiser Smartstats 8 years ago, but the servers for these are now being turned off requiring me to upgrade to the Neo. So, despite slight concerns about this built-in obsolescence, I bought one each of the black and white Neo models. The wiring is identical, so replacement was easy. The black one is great, but the white is very hard to read in anything other than bright light. The Smartstat had a low level backlight on all the time, but for some reason the white Neo does not. This is a surprising and disappointing backwards step in the design. The black model has permanently illuminated digits, so can be read easily. I’d give 5 stars for the black, but no more than 3 for the white.

Incomprehensible nonsense
It is by far the most confusing and unintuitive user interface I have ever had the misfortune of interacting with, It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Turning the temperature up or down is completely impossible. This is not a joke or hyperbole. It is not just me also. We have spent hours watching videos reading manuals and on the phone to support. I am still unable to turn the temperature up or down. I have bought their HomeKit device in the hope that the Apple UI is more usable.

We bought this after using a Heatmiser SmartStat for about 7 years before it failed (inexplicably switching off and eventually refusing to start up again). The NeoStat and the new app seem better. We have it in a holiday let and it allows us just the right level of control from afar. Set up was simple.
